We take your privacy seriously. Here's how we handle, protect, and manage your personal information when you work with us or visit our website.
Look, we get it - nobody really enjoys reading privacy policies. But since we're lawyers who deal with corporate matters and litigation, we figured we'd make ours as straightforward as possible.
At Stalorvynth Legal Partners, we've been handling sensitive client information for years. Whether you're reaching out for M&A advice, dealing with a commercial dispute, or just browsing our site, your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what info we collect, why we need it, and what we do with it.
We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and all applicable provincial privacy laws. That's not just legal jargon - it means we're serious about protecting your data.
When you contact us or become a client, we'll typically collect:
Like most websites these days, we automatically grab some technical stuff:
We only collect what we actually need. If we're asking for something, it's because it helps us provide better legal services or it's required by law.
We're not in the business of selling data or spamming people. Here's what we actually do with your info:
Providing the legal representation and advice you're paying us for - litigation support, M&A work, contract drafting, compliance advice, you name it.
Responding to your inquiries, keeping you updated on your matters, and sending relevant legal updates if you've opted in.
Processing payments, managing accounts, maintaining our practice management systems. The usual back-office stuff.
Meeting our professional obligations under the Law Society rules, anti-money laundering regs, and other legal requirements.
Analyzing how people use our site so we can make it better. Nothing creepy, just figuring out what works.
Sending newsletters or updates about our services - but only if you've said it's cool. You can opt out anytime.
Bottom line: We use your information to do our job as your lawyers and to run our practice effectively. That's it.
We don't go around sharing your info willy-nilly. But there are some situations where we might need to:
Obviously, if you tell us it's okay to share something with someone, we will. For example, discussing your case with opposing counsel or sharing documents with a third party involved in your transaction.
We work with various vendors who help us run the firm - cloud storage providers, billing software, IT support, etc. These folks only get access to what they need to do their job, and they're contractually bound to keep it confidential.
Sometimes we're legally required to disclose information - court orders, subpoenas, Law Society investigations, anti-money laundering reporting requirements. We hate it too, but the law's the law.
If we merge with another firm or sell our practice (not planning on it, but you never know), client information would transfer as part of that deal. Any successor firm would be bound by the same confidentiality obligations we are.
Data breaches are no joke, especially when you're dealing with sensitive corporate and litigation matters. Here's what we do to keep your information locked down:
All data transmission uses SSL/TLS encryption. Files at rest are encrypted too.
Multi-factor authentication, role-based access, and regular password updates.
Canadian-hosted servers with regular security audits and backups.
Everyone here knows the drill when it comes to data protection and confidentiality.
Network security monitoring to detect and prevent unauthorized access.
Proper destruction of physical and digital records when they're no longer needed.
That said, no system is 100% bulletproof. We do our best, but we can't guarantee absolute security. If you're emailing us sensitive info, consider using encrypted email or our secure client portal.
Yeah, we use cookies. Not the delicious kind - the internet kind. Here's the breakdown:
| Cookie Type | What It Does | Can You Block It? |
|---|---|---|
| Essential Cookies | Keep the site working properly - security, basic navigation, remembering your preferences. | Not really - site won't work right without them. |
| Analytics Cookies | Help us understand how people use the site so we can improve it. We use Google Analytics. | Yep - adjust your browser settings or opt out. |
| Marketing Cookies | Track whether our ads are working, show relevant content. Pretty standard stuff. | Absolutely - you're in control here. |
Most browsers let you control cookies through their settings. You can block them, delete them, or get notified when they're being set. Just know that blocking certain cookies might make the site less functional.
We use Google Analytics to see what's working on our site. Google collects data about your visit - pages viewed, time spent, that sort of thing. It's anonymized and aggregated. If you want to opt out of Google Analytics entirely, check out their browser add-on.
Under PIPEDA and other Canadian privacy laws, you've got some solid rights when it comes to your personal info:
You can ask us what personal information we have about you. We'll provide it within 30 days (might take a bit longer for complex requests).
If something's wrong or outdated, let us know and we'll fix it. Keeping accurate records is important to us anyway.
If you've given us permission to use your info for something (like marketing emails), you can change your mind anytime. Just heads up - we might still need to keep certain info for legal or professional reasons.
If you think we've mishandled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. We'd prefer you talk to us first so we can sort it out, but it's your call.
To exercise any of these rights, reach out to us at:

We don't keep your information forever, but we can't just delete everything the second you're done working with us either. Here's generally how long we hold onto stuff:
We're required by the Law Society of Ontario to keep client files for at least 10 years after the matter closes. For litigation files, we usually keep them longer - you never know when someone might file an appeal or need documentation years down the road.
Tax laws require us to keep billing and financial records for 7 years. That's just how the CRA wants it.
If you've subscribed to our newsletter or updates, we'll keep your contact info until you unsubscribe. Simple as that.
Analytics and cookie data typically get cleared out after 26 months. We're not building permanent profiles or anything weird like that.
Once we don't need information anymore and we're past the required retention periods, we securely destroy it. Shredding for paper, secure deletion for digital files.
Our website might link to other sites - case law databases, government resources, industry publications, that sort of thing. Once you click those links, you're on your own. We can't control what those sites do with your data, and this privacy policy doesn't cover them.
Before you hand over personal info to any third-party site, take a minute to read their privacy policy. Some of them are way more invasive than we are.
If you've got questions about this privacy policy, want to exercise your rights, or just want to chat about how we handle your data, don't hesitate to reach out.

Privacy laws evolve, our practices improve, and sometimes we just need to clarify things. When we make significant changes to this policy, we'll let you know via email if you're a client, and we'll post an updated version here with a new "last updated" date.
We won't make major changes that reduce your privacy protections without giving you a heads up first. Minor clarifications or updates might happen without notice - that's why the date at the top matters.
